Ok, so I LOVE the folk genre of today’s music (I even host a weekly radio show called “Folk Ya”) and when traveling back in time found that they had a genre of folk music too! I set forth to discover the difference and make some connections between the two!
When searching for a connection I found this cool video with an instrument that connected the two genres, check it out!!! So cool!
I also found this guy who is performing an actual English folk song from the Renaissance called: “A Farewell and Adieu to You”
And finally, today’s version of folk (according to me, your current folk music guru) ♥
ENJOY!
According to Real.com “folk” music during the renaissance time was: Simpler than medieval rhythms and melodies, Renaissance music (1450-1600) utilized less complex harmonies and was greatly influenced by the push toward secular art.
